Many users are often surprised to learn that they can create beautiful custom interactive maps with Google Sheets. To do so, enter the information to be mapped into two columns, one column that has the geographic reference points and the other that has numeric information such as life expectancy, for example, or per capita income. Drag the cursor over the information to select all of that data. To create a map, either click “Insert” and select “Chart” or click the “Chart” icon in the Google Sheets toolbar. In the “Chart Editor,” click the “Chart type” dropdown menu, scroll to “Map” and select either “Geo chart” or “Geo chart with markers.” A geo chart will fill in a map’s regions fully with color while a geo chart with markers will drop markers on specificed areas on a map. After the map has been created, click “Customize” in the “Chart Editor” to customize the colors of the data points and regions of the map if desired.37
